The mission of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is to serve the Government and people of Ireland by leading, developing and regulating the agri-food sector, protecting public health and optimising social, economic and environmental benefits. The current programme for Government includes a commitment to support the development of the sport horse sector and to enhance the marketing and breeding of Irish sport horses. The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is the designated competent authority for the implementation of the EU Animal Breeding Regulations (Regulation (EU) 2016/1012)) which provides the rules and standards for recognising a breed society and approving a breeding programme for the respective breed. The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine are seeking to award contract(s) to operate the Studbooks for the following breeds to breeders- associations, breeding organisations or public bodies: - The Irish Sport Horse (No. of Foals entered in 2024: circa 4400) - The Irish Sport Pony (No. of Foals entered in 2024: circa 110) - The Irish Draught (No. of Foals entered in 2024: circa 930) - The Irish Cob (No. of Foals entered in 2024: circa 90) - The Irish Part-bred Cob (No. of Foals entered in 2024: circa 11). The contracts will be issued for a specific breed groups. The breeds have been divided into three lots based on the intrinsic links between some of the breeds in question. Applicants may apply for any or all of the following lots 1. The Irish Sport Horse and the Irish Sport Pony 2. The Irish Draught 3. The Irish Cob and the Irish Part-bred Cob. No studbook operational fees will be offered by the client but the successful tenderer will have the right to administer the stud books, including the right to charge fees to clients who wish to avail of the studbook services within the industry norm.
