Detailed_Description : Improve the functionality of the Ministry-s modelling capabilities by adding an ECOLab template that is extended with equations that describe the fate of sulphate and mercury in freshwater aquatic environments.
Scope of Work : Enhance the Ministry-s existing MIKE Zero nutrient cycling template with equations for simulating the fate of sodium sulphate and mercury in aquatic systems, including the interaction with iron, phosphorus, and nitrogen. The proposed enhanced template would enable scientists to model how increases in sulphate (via industrial effluent discharges) may impact aquatic organism exposure and the accumulation of mercury in sediment. Build on the current hydrodynamic emergency response modelling system that is used to rapidly simulate spills to protect drinking water intakes and the Great Lakes ecosystem, by moving the existing spill response framework from a Windows to a Linux operating environment.
