Description : 1. BACKGROUND

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services [MHMS] National Health Services Strategic Plan [NHSP] articulated the Ministry's commitment to strengthen coordination mechanisms and partnership arrangements between the MHMS and all development partners supporting the Ministry.

A multitude of stakeholders support the health sector in Solomon Islands and it is imperative that the efforts are well coordinated and are in line with national health plans and policies. This is coordinated through a sector-wide approach (SWAp) agreement which is well established and functional in Solomon Islands involving sixteen development partners and two Government Ministries. It is intended to build on this experience and establish additional mechanisms to work with important stakeholders that have not been part of the SWAp agreement.



A Partnership Coordination Unit (PCU) has been established with the technical assistance of WHO under the leadership of the Director Policy and Planning. Through the establishment of the unit, MHMS aims to ensure a coordinated approach to development partner technical support in line with the MHMS and SIG national development priorities.
