Expression of Interest are invited for Teach Primary: final data collection in Mexico

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges of the Mexican National Education System, where a significant loss of learning and an increase in school dropouts is estimated. In Guanajuato, after the reopening of schools in August 2021, a drop in school performance was observed, especially in Spanish and Mathematics, affecting vulnerable students the most. The continuous training of teachers becomes crucial in the face of these challenges, supported by the regulatory framework that recognizes the importance of their professional development. In this context, the Secretariat of Education of Guanajuato (SEG), in collaboration with the World Bank, implements the Metodología de Acompañamiento (MetA) pilot program to strengthen teaching practice in public, general, and fully organized primary schools in the state.

The MetA program seeks to support the acceleration of learning in Guanajuato by measuring and improving teaching practices in the classroom. Mainly, it will focus on improving teachers' ability to deal with students of different learning levels, which has been aggravated by the effects of the pandemic: according to the Collection of Information for the Improvement of Learning (RIMA), in 2021, 72% of the differences in learning outcomes between students occur within the classroom.
