SURGE (Suriname-s Growth Enterprises) is a program of theMinistry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovationwith funding by the World Bank supporting the growth of micro, small, andmedium enterprises (MSMEs) in Suriname through business development servicesand matching grants. Many SURGE-supported companies have identified qualityimprovement and certification as pivotal to reaching higher-value markets andcustomers. Within this context, the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI)sector - encompassing businesses in arts, crafts, design, fashion, media, tourismand other cultural products - is a priority for development. CCI firmscontribute to economic diversification and cultural heritage, but they oftenface unique challenges in meeting international quality standards whilepreserving creative authenticity. Enhancing quality management, branding, andcompliance with relevant standards will help CCI entrepreneurs improve productconsistency, access new markets (including tourism and export opportunities), and compete more effectively.
