UNICEF has now issued a Request for Proposals in order to select a supplier for the provision of Supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a solar-powered pumping unit and its accessories for Borehole No (KA), AlQadisia, Sanaa city. UNICEF advocates for renewable energy as a sustainable source, considering the deterioration of the infrastructure in Yemen for the electrical power grid, and the shortage of fuel which resulted in dysfunctionality of power grid as reliable source, UNICEF seeks to support Sanaa city Local Water & Sanitation Co. (LWSC) with sustainable solar power. This should assure a reliable source of electricity that requires minimum cost of operation and maintenance after the installation and secure the water pumping and supply to affected beneficiaries. In fact, due to the current intensive fighting, women and children constitute a large proportion of the IDP population in Yemen, especially those who live with their relatives in Sanaa city in general and in Al-Qadisia quarter, one of the quarters of Al-Sabeen District in which is particularly vulnerable when it comes to access to safe water.
