I. Overview
The Newborn Screening Reference Center (NSRC) is mandated by Republic Act 9288, otherwise known as the Newborn Screening Act of 2004 to maintain national testing database and patient registries. NSRC is also the oversight body of the newborn screening centers (NSCs), ensuring they run smoothly with minor disruptions. In this connection, NSRC is undertaking various projects, including 1) Database consolidation from all NSCs and 2) Disaster recovery infrastructure for all NSCs. Over a million record sets are added to the NSRC database annually. In addition, most applications and programs and their corresponding databases used in the newborn screening program, including patient registry, are housed on NSRC servers.
