On 25 January 2022, the Ministry of the Environment has confirmed the decision of the Center for Business, Transport and the Environment of Uusimaa to protect Suomenlinna under the Act on the Protection of Built Heritage. The officers' club building C53 is classified as S1 in the conservation classification. Repairs and changes must be based on sufficient reports on the history, characteristics and condition of the object. Structural and the material solutions must be suitable for the historical characteristics of the buildings. The measures must be conservative, restorative or otherwise suitable for the characteristics of the sites. Competent preservation experts of the Finnish Museum Agency are consulted in the changes and in the repair work as specified in the tender documents. Building C53 is the oldest building in Finland originally built as an officers' club, the purpose of which has remained the same. C52 Kurtiinitalo and Bastioni Bielke are from the construction stages of the 18th century related protected buildings, which currently have mainly residential use, as well as facilities related to the exit arrangements of C53.
