Region: Taranaki Overview: Stratford District Council is seeking quotes from suitably qualified contractors for the replacement of a wooden staircase on the Carrington Walkway, between Regan Street and Brecon Road in Stratford. The staircase is in close proximity to the Patea River so the works are expected to be completed with the appropriate health and safety requirements within this sensitive environment. The following works is required for the completion of this project: · Dismantling and disposing of existing, disintegrating wooden staircase and handrail · Digging out and ground preparation to receive new staircase · Installation of new wooden staircase, with a minimum tread width of 310 mm and a maximum rise of 180 mm for each step, as per NZS4121:2001 requirements for accessibility. If this is not achievable, the contractor is to notify the Engineer before proceeding to get agreeance on the final dimensions. · Installation of a new wooden handrail on the river side of the staircase, 900 mm above the nosing of the stair tread. · Installation of safety matting on the treads to prevent slipping. This shall be sufficiently installed so fraying does not occur on the edges.
