The City of Ostend issues a 1-year concession, which can be extended once by 1 year after a favorable evaluation of both the concession and the concessionaire, for organizing and operating a taxi service between Ostend station and: • Ostend Crematorium • Ostend Science Park (OSP) With this concession, the City wants to achieve better accessibility of two important urban sites and offer a flexible additional transport offer for visitors, employees and residents. It Public transport from De Lijn in Ostend offers largely smooth access to the city with its regular services. However, there are two important pain points in the city that require special attention; the limited access and accessibility of the crematorium and the OSP site (Science Park, Ostend Science Park). There are currently no 'flex' services operational within the Ostend transport region (the former call bus). There are also no prospects from Flanders in the short term additional budgets will be released to organize flexible transport within the Ostend transport region. That is why the City of Ostend is actively looking for alternative solutions. This alternative consists of offering a taxi ride that can be reserved use at a competitive price, which corresponds to the price of the bus ticket, i.e. €3.00.
