Securing the sand landfill at Knaben according to NS8406 The tailings landfill (Knabensanden) at closed Knaben molybdenum mines results in the runoff of fine-grained tailings (sand and silt) to the watercourse below. The purpose of the assignment is to carry out lasting measures such as prevents this runoff. Knaben molybdenum mines were closed in 1973, and have left behind a tailings dump. The waste is the "worthless part" of the ore, and consists of fine mineral particles. The landfill covers an area of around 300 acres, and has a capacity of up to 20 m. Security work has previously been carried out in connection with the landfill, at the beginning of the 2000s and in 2011-2012. Planned measures are to: • empty the sand trap in Store Knabetjønn • clean up the established drainage channels around the landfill, in order to surface water outside the landfill • transport the masses from the points above, to the landfill and lay out at the designated place on the landfill • stabilize the masses at the landfill with the help of gravel masses and growing soil. Vekstjord must provide a basis for later acquisition for planting and sowing. • establish layer fences It is also relevant to assess whether there is a need for further measures in the upper part of the landfill. If applicable, this will be carried out with hourly rates in the contract. Measures...
