The Scival service is used to benchmark and compare how LUT ranks in terms of research compared to other universities and research institutes. The service seeks benefit for scientific purposes. Analyzes are needed for strategy work, which need to be comparable to previous equivalents, and such can only be obtained with the same service. In addition, the classification of publications according to the SDG is an essential feature, which is needed from the point of view of THE Impact Ranking goal. SciVal is based on the Scopus database, other similar services are based on different databases and do not cover a sufficiently wide range of LUT's scientific publications. Scopus covers an average of about 94%, other similar databases only cover an average of 65%, leaving hundreds of publications outside the analysis. SciVal also indexes publications in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG, with the same criteria such as THE Impact Ranking), which are essential in terms of LUT's sustainable development goals. According to the report, a replacement or similar system will not be available in the near future. (1937/2016) Chapter 5, Section 40, Subsection 2, Item 2.
