The World Bank Group (WBG) is planning to conduct a large-scale firm survey on technology adoption to provide comparability between and within countries. The Green Technology Adoption Survey (TAS) aims to provide evidence-based information at the firm-level to improve policies that foster technology adoption and innovation. Besides identifying the adoption of technology by firms, including cutting-edge technologies associated with Industry 4.0, a key contribution of the survey is to identify the purpose for which the technology is being used. The survey is constructed around 5 modules. The first two modules are focused on general business functions and sector-specific business functions. A third core module of the survey will measure key drivers and barriers of technology adoption that will be comparable across countries. A fourth module focuses on green practices and energy efficiency measures. In addition, the survey will cover information on general firm characteristics, labor, balance sheet, and performance indicators in its final module, to estimate productivity and the results associated with the adoption of technologies. To date, the survey has been conducted in Poland, Croatia, Georgia, and Korea, which will serve as benchmark countries for Romania, as well as in Bangladesh, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chile, Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal, Malawi, Jamaica, India, Kenya, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Data from other EU countries will follow over time. A firm-level database created as a result of the implementation of Technology Adoption Survey will form the basis for the report, an example of which for Poland can be found here.
