Description : Emerging soft robots, made of polymers with embedded sensing and actuation capabilities that respond to their environment in programmable fashions, are envisioned, to revolutionize healthcare. Today, the development of novel soft robotic materials is one of the most pressing issues in materials and chemical science. The goal of Dr. Shahsavan-s SMART-Lab at the University of Waterloo is to develop novel soft robotic materials that mimic features of living organisms. Dr. Shahsavan's team will focus on the synthesis of novel programmable multi-stimuli-responsive polymers, and the fabrication of soft robots via different techniques such as additive manufacturing. The proposed research will dramatically advance the state-of-the-art and introduce a new class of multi-stimuli-responsive polymers as building blocks for multifunctional robots. Dr. Shahsavan is seeking to purchase a cutting-edge Rheometer for his team-s Mechanical Testing requirements.
