Cedar, housed at Simon Fraser University (SFU), is the largest general-purpose computing system in support of Advanced Research Computing (ARC) in Canada and runs a diverse set of code in support of advanced materials science, drug discovery, and climate science, as well as AI, machine learning, and the digital humanities and others.This RFP is to replace the Cedar general-purpose high-performance computing (HPC) Cluster and Storage infrastructure owned and operated by SFU with a completely new, autonomous cluster. Procurement and deployment of a new system is open to any Canadian researcher with Resource Allocation Competition (RAC), and tens of thousands of Canada-wide non-RAC users. The proposed infrastructure will be maintained and available throughout its useful lifespan by SFU-s Research Computing Group (RCG) in consultation with other national host sites and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada Federation teams.
