Tender Details

Expression of Interest are invited for Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Building Technologies and Local Business Development in Nepal.

Description: The Nepal Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) supported the design and implementation of the Government of Nepal-s Housing Reconstruction Program (HRP) as well as the World Bank-financed Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Project (EHRP). With the support of the governments of Canada, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the MDTF, administered by the World Bank, created a flexible financing option that laid the groundwork for Nepal-s reconstruction and recovery. The World Bank, as the administrator of the MDTF, has implementation responsibility in carrying out technical assistance and capacity-building activities aimed at strengthening Nepal-s overall capacity toward risk reduction and management, preparedness, and response in line with global best practices.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), MDTF Development Partners, and the World Bank agreed on March 2023 to advance with five additional technical assistance projects to build on the achievements of the EHRP and contribute to reinforcing disaster risk reduction and management systems in Nepal toward longer-term disaster resilience.

This work aims to produce analytical evidence regarding the resilience, sustainability, inclusivity, contribution to social development, and scalability of various building construction technologies and strengthen the technical and business development capacity of local enterprises and professionals in Nepal to adopt more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive building practices. The World Bank will present the analytical results to the Government of Nepal to help identify cost-efficient and scalable reconstruction and retrofitting solutions for tackling the vulnerability of public buildings and private houses to multiple hazards (earthquakes, floods, drought, wind). The capacity-building program will target municipalities in the provinces of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, Lumbini, and/or Sudurpashim.
