REMOVE DERELICT VESSEL W. BATTERY COOPERThe National Park Service has a requirement for the removal of a 1976 18 Foot Cane Cutter fiberglass boat (bass/ski) that is a derelict vessel located on the south side of Santa Rosa Island, in the Fort Pickens area, west of Battery Cooper (30.32262N, 87.29051W). Removal is necessary to prevent environmental damage, protect park resources, and maintain visitor safety.Background: A 1976 18 foot Cane Cutter washed ashore on or about August 5th, 2025. U.S. Park Rangers and Florida Fish & Wildlife (FWC) Officers investigated and could not identify the current owner of the vessel. FWC stickered the boat as abandoned on August 9th, and an NPS abandoned property sticker was placed on the vessel the same day. The vessel needs to be removed as it will have a negative impact on park resources if left to be destroyed by waves and the elements. IMARS case incident number NP25241191. Latitude 30.322274°, Longitude -87.26248°, Santa Rosa Island, Escambia County, Florida.Scope: The contractor shall conduct all work to include, removing the vessel from the sand, towing, vessel haul out, hazardous waste removal, salvage, and disposal of the 18¿ Cane Cutter vessel. The vessel will be removed by water to mitigate impact to the upland area.The contractor shall also have a containment barrier to keep any hazardous waste or debris from escaping from the work site into the water, submerged lands, and ground. The company will be responsible for the removal of the containment barrier and disposed of through industry norms. The 18¿ vessel will be removed by water to minimize any impacts to the beach, vegetation, sea grasses, and submerged lands. The vessel will not be removed over land. The vessel will be pulled off the shore and towed into the Gulf of America and back in through the Pensacola Pass.
