Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Reliable, Modular and Scalable European Battery Range - Expro Plus.

For deep space exploration, telecommunication and navigation applications, the current trend is toconsider miniaturized and cost efficient small satellite solutions (Minisats, Cubesats 16U, 12U and6U etc.). This has a strong impact on battery selection and qualification. Due to procurementconstraints (cost and time), terrestrial COTS cells are selected with a limited assessment of spaceapplication suitability. This increases the risk of delay in the planning development, the mission lossdue to battery catastrophic failure and the generation of debris in orbit.Since the battery plays an important role in the mission objectives such as energy storage, busstability and safe mode, it appears fundamental to lower the risk in developing Hi-Rel batteries, modular and scalable, based on reliable battery cell suitable for space environment and that meetsthe electrical performances, mission duration (3 to 5 years), volume allocation, cost and lead timetargets. This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Review and consolidation of technical and market requirements- Trade-off and selection of terrestrial COTS cells- Definition of the cells screening and matching methodology- Design and breadboard a high reliability battery range, modular and scalable, based onbuilding blocks- Characterization of performances to validate screening/matching methodology andthermomechanical design- Assessment of cost/procurement time and way forward to qualificationProcurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs).
