In 2009, the Department deployed the Fraudulent Travel Documentation Detection System (FTDDS) for International Airport Primary Line (PL) and Primary Support Points (PSP) processing. This solution included provision of eMRTD readers, ongoing maintenance and regular travel document template and software releases. This solution has reached “end-of-life” and the Department is seeking a replacement solution. In 2022-23, approximately 9.5 million (33%) of travellers (arriving and departing) were processed at the manual primary lines. The Department is seeking to replace the existing passport reader solution to continue to provide traveller identity services as an essential component of the maintaining border integrity and immigration processing.
