Description : SFCA has managed the Artists in the Schools program as well as the Teaching Artist Roster for decades. Through these programs, keiki throughout the archipelago receive rich artistic experiences in their classrooms. Every year, we receive extremely positive feedback from teachers, administrators, students and teaching artists about the experience. When the program was established, it reflected that era-s prioritized educational models, primarily based in Western arts frameworks, pedagogy and aesthetics. While the model has shifted slightly throughout the decades, the SFCA has identified a need take a deeper analysis of the arts education programming with the goal to expand the system/create a new system to reflect all of Hawai-i-s rich social, cultural and political realities. This will include analyzing the program through an indigenous/Pacific Islander lens. There is a need to analyze who the program design serves, what obstacles prevent more equitable application pool, and gather recommendations from leading arts and cultural educators on solutions and next steps.
