The Syndicat Mixte Entre Pic et Etang (SMEPE) exercises waste treatment competence for the 6 member groups of municipalities: • Pays de l-Or Urban Community; • Community of Communes of Grand Pic St Loup; • Urban Community of Lunel; • Community of Communes Rhôny Vistre Vidourle; • Community of Communes of the Pays de Sommières; • Community of Communes Terre de Camargue. Its territory brings together 89 municipalities representing approximately 226, 500 sedentary inhabitants of the South-East sector of Hérault and the South-West sector of Gard. The waste collected by the various groups reaches the treatment facilities under service contract with the Union. Thus, the plants are collected through a network of 27 recycling centers and collection points. They then enter the field of intervention of the Union, responsible for processing them. Following the integration of plant processing skills in 2016, the Union carried out an audit of the exercise of this competence, on the 6 processing platforms present on its territory. It was thus established that the plant processing activity on the Marsillargues platform could not be continued.
