THFM invites high quality, professional architectural and design firms to respond to this Request for Proposal ("RFP") to serve as Prime Consultant. The New Facility Expansion Project (NFEP) entails the replacement of the tent hangar with a larger, more permanent structure as well as some focused renovations to the current hangar. The Project consists of the development of an innovative new building, just south of the current hangar, sized to maximize site utilization to accommodate current and further storage requirements while meeting modern expectations for museum-rich, restoration and display spaces. Creating a larger building will give the THFM the opportunity to protect more artifacts than it currently has space to house, including Calgary's de Havilland Mosquito, which is currently under restoration in Nanton, AB, and a CF-100 Canuck aircraft under restoration in Wetaskiwin, AB. It will ensure that its artifacts are protected from seasonal temperature changes as the current tent hangar is not heated. This will also have a significant effect on the visitor experience and make the THFM enjoyable even on the coldest day. It will give the THFM the capacity to upgrade its exhibits, making them more engaging with the opportunity for multimedia and hands-on learning opportunities in ways that are not currently possible in an outdoor structure. The total budgeted construction value of the NFEP is estimated at $45, 000, 000 and is anticipated to be open to the public in 2032.
