Description Program Metronet Metronet is a strategic investment and development program for the metro network in the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Region, led by the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH) in collaboration with the RET. Purpose of it program is to make the metro network future-proof through: • New Vehicles Program Renewal and expansion of metro vehicles, including the purchase of additional metro cars to accommodate higher frequencies and growing passenger numbers. • Capacity Increase Program Modernization of infrastructure, such as the metro workshop in Waalhaven, to support maintenance and capacity of new and existing vehicles. • Waalhaven Renewal Program The Waalhaven Workshop will be thorough expanded and modernized as part of the Metronet programme. The existing workshop, which has been in use since 1974 and currently provides maintenance for RET metro vehicles, is no longer sufficient for future capacity and technology of the new vehicles. The Metronet program focuses on the period until approximately 2030-2033 and contributes to the accessibility, capacity and quality of public transport in the region amid growing population numbers and mobility demand. If part of Metronet, Capacity Increase Program, the yard at the Waalhaven is also being renovated and expanded. The Strategic Projects and Programs department is the requester in this assignment.
