CONSTRUCTION WORKS FOR DAMs The project is planned for Fr. Almopaios, in P.E. Pella. The construction site of the dam is located at a distance of approximately 4 km north of the Kali settlement of the Municipality of Skydra. The dam is predicted to be rock-cut with Impassable Central Core. The construction materials are obtained from the necessary excavations, from borrow pits and from quarry areas to be developed by the Contractor within the flood basin or approved quarries in the area. The elevation of the river bed in axis of the dam is +44.00 and the elevation of its crown is +105.00. Therefore the maximum height of the dam, from the river bed, is 61.00 meters. The crest of the dam is 245 meters long and 12 meters wide. It is integrated into the body of the dam the main abutment, which has a crowning elevation of +74.00 and the downstream slope incorporates the protection dyke against the upstream return of overflows. The accompanying works of the dam, the overflow, diversion and water intake works are being installed on the left (east) buttress. The spillway is lateral with fusegates mounted on its crown. The diversion pipe is constructed on the left abutment with open-air excavations and backfilling (cut & cover). The diverted waters are guided to the entrance of the diverter, through a trapezoidal ditch. An auxiliary diversion embankment is constructed to divert the waters towards the ditch.
