Description: BACKGROUNDHealth care-associated infections (HAI) are among the most common adverse events in care delivery and a significant public health problem that impact morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. At any one time, up to 7% of patients in developed and 15% in low and middle income countries will acquire at least one HAI. These infections also present a significant economic burden at the societal level. However, a large percentage of HAI are preventable through adequate infection prevention and control (IPC) measures.In Lao PDR, the Department of Health Care and Rehabilitation (DHR) is responsible for the national IPC programme’s overall coordination and governance in the hospital settings.
