The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the National Department of Health (NDOH) project officer for Non-communicable Disease (NCD) prevention and management under Special Service Agreement (SSA).BACKGROUNDPapua New Guinea is facing a double disease burden with rapid growth in noncommunicable diseases and a continuing high prevalence of communicable diseases. It is also noted that surveillance of noncommunicable diseases remains a challenge. NCDs are estimated to be the leading causes of death and account for over half of all deaths (56%) in Papua New Guinea. Most NCD deaths are from cardiovascular disease (44%), followed by cancer (22%), chronic respiratory diseases (20%), and diabetes (14%). Moreover, the risk of premature death from NCDs between 30-70 years is around 36%.
