Abstract: IMPACT at Swansea University seeks tenders for a video extensometer as part of its research under the Prosperity Partnership (SB4). This Prosperity Partnership will implement a Rapid Alloy Prototyping (RAP) process, analogous to the high-throughput methodologies used in the pharmaceutical industry. Instead of using tens of industrial scale ingots (tonnes) per alloy, large numbers (hundreds) of small laboratory scale samples (grams) of different steel alloy combinations will be tested for properties, process-ability and characterised using state-of-the-art testing. The ability to test tensile specimens with a large range of dimensions on the same system is necessary to validate the properties of lab scale production alloys against large scale commercial production material. This characterisation will be possible through the purchase of this Non Contacting Video Extensometer offering novel capabilities that will contribute to the activities of IMPACT.
