New guide on identification and characterization of acid-forming rocks The Norwegian Environment Agency needs an updated version of the current guide "Identification and characterization of acid-forming rocks. 2015". The supervisor is a combination of background information and guidance and is mainly about alum slate. There are several places in the country where there has been a need to handle large quantities of acid-forming rocks that are not alum slate. There is therefore a need for better guidance on how different types of acid-forming rock must be identified, characterized and how the pollution potential must be assessed. We see a need to update the current guide with new knowledge about several types of acid-forming rock, and want to create a practical web-based supervisor. The guide must be written in clear and easy-to-understand language and be aimed at the pollution authorities and the owner of the measure. The report "Identification and characterization of acid-forming rocks. 2015" will be used as the basis for the new guide, together with other relevant up-to-date knowledge.
