Tender Details

Request for Information for MSR-ERO Grab and Release Unit Electronics (GRUE).

DISCLAIMER: This Request for Information does not constitute a procurement and does not fall under ESA Procurement Regulations. It does not oblige Airbus Defence and Space SAS nor ESA to carry out any procurement or place any contract. Neither Airbus Defence and Space SAS nor ESA will reimburse the costs of replying to this Request for Information. By replying to this Request for Information, respondents are accepting the conditions defined below for Personal Data Protection and for the use and dissemination of the data and information contained in their response to this Request for Information. The Mars Sample Return - Earth Return Orbiter (ERO) is one of three European Space Agency (ESA) contributions to the NASA/JPL led Mars Sample Return Campaign, which aims to return soil and atmospheric samples from the Mars surface to Earth. As part of a preliminary assessment in the frame of the project “Mars Sample Return - Earth Return Orbiter Spacecraft” (“MSR-ERO”), Airbus Defence and Space SAS and ESA will be pleased to invite you to submit your best estimate for the subject Request For Information (RFI). As MSR-ERO prime contractor, Airbus Defence and Space SAS is assessing the possibility to develop a Grab and Release Unit to be embarked on MSR-ERO. The assessment may lead to one or several procurement actions at a later stage. This RFI covers the design, manufacture / assembly / integration, and qualification / acceptance of the MSR-ERO Grab and Release Unit Electronics (“GRUE”). The main objectives of this RFI are to assesses potential technical solutions, identify key-technology drivers and associated risks, assess the schedule and price and identify potential suppliers and potential geographical return. The GRU electronic unit (GRUE) will have to provide the following elementaries electrical functions at the GRU system: • Power conditioning: Adapting the electrical power from the ERO PCDU lines to meet the specific requirements of electronic devices on GRU. It involves to regulate, stabilize, and protect the power supply from disturbances. The goal of power conditioning is to provide a reliable, and consistent power supply to enhance the performance of electrical functions. • Power distribution: Delivering electrical power from a centralized source, to GRU functions. It involves the transmission and distribution of electrical energy through a network of power lines, to ensure a reliable and efficient allocation • Thermal power supply: Generating heat by using electrical power. This function provides enough power operational temperature to mechanisms and GRU functions during the mission. • Thermal control: Managing the temperature and heat distribution within GRU system. It involves to regulate and control the thermal environment to ensure that critical components, instruments, motors and systems operate within their specified temperature ranges. • Motor drive electronics: Controlling and regulating the operation of motors used in GRU system. These electronics are responsible for converting electrical power into the appropriate signals and currents required to drive and control the motors in reliable conditions. • SpaceWire: Provides a reliable and efficient means of transmitting data, commands, and control signals between ERO and GRU system in a high-speed serial communication protocol. It is also used for interconnecting subsystems within GRU system. SpaceWire incorporates error detection and correction mechanisms to ensure data integrity and reliability. • Pyrotechnics (or signal actuation) telecommand: Initiating specific release actions at GRU system level, it involves the transmission of telecommand signals to activate or trigger pyrotechnic Further information concerning the Mars Sample Return campaign and the Earth Return Orbiter mission can be found on the Agency's website here: https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Human_and_Robotic_Exploration/Exploration/Mars_sample_returnRead more.
