Description

The Migratory Education Program (MEP) is authorized by Part C of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended (ESEA). The federal program provides formula grants to State educational agencies (SEAs) to establish and improve education programs for migratory children. The States, in improving educational opportunities for migratory children, help them succeed in the regular school program, meet the same State academic content and student academic achievement standards that all children are expected to meet, and graduate from high school. As stated by the statute, MEP services are intended to supplement services after all other local, state, and federal services have been provided.The State of Iowa has elected to contract some of the State-s responsibilities to a statewide, public education institution to serve as a representative for the SEA in collaborative completion of the responsibilities assigned by the State.
