The Municipality of Amsterdam facilitates various large-scale events in the city. Some make explicit use of the canals; especially King's Day and the boat parade during the 'Gay Pride'. There are houseboats in the Amsterdam canals. To houseboats in the Prinsengracht, on the Amstelveldand Noordermarkt, against damage, the municipality is installing so-called 'crash protection' at these two events.
