Description
The ARCS was designed and built by Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE). TBE specified the main compressor used in the system. This contractual effort is just for the main compressor and its minor parts (replacement parts built in kits) needed to keep the system operational. Compressors are common, however finding a compressor with the specific ARCS operational/performance requirements is very difficult. This compressor is ideally suited for the TAP mission in regard to power, flow, pressure, size and form. The ARCS compressor must operate in a very tight space completely enclosed inside the unit, within a limited power range, but still provide specific pressure and flow. Form/fit/function is crucial. Most compressors with this flow and pressure are too large for our application or use too much power. The Gast compressor meets these requirements. Lastly, the ARCS compressor is identified in drawings by exact part number and cage code. Changing to another compressor would require significant testing and configuration control approval. Therefore, this will consist of a brand name requirement for the listed equipment. MilMotion has been identified as the sole source manufacturer.
