The Etzelwerk power plant, built between 1932 and 1937, uses the gradient between Lake Sihl and Lake Zurich to generate energy and produces around 10% of Switzerland's traction power requirements. After the license renewal in 2023, the SBB now runs the Renewal and replacement of plant components of the Etzelwerk pumped storage power plant as part of the Etzelwerk power plant renewal project. The subject of this tender is the renewal of the original machine sets 1-3 as well Subsystems of machine groups 4-6. Further services will be tendered as part of options for future renovation work on machine groups 4-7, which are currently planned following the work on machine groups 1-3.
