Description
The Request for Information (RFI) is a two-person backpack-mounted portable time-domain electromagnetic system. Transmitter and receiver packs each way less than 12 kg, allowing rapid data collection at walking pace in remote locations. The time-domain system has a transmitter with sufficient power (approximately 100 Ampere-turns-m^2) and turn-off time (approximately 9 microseconds) to generate signals that allow for mapping of the uppermost 40-60 m below ground, with configurable base-frequency for different geological settings. The receiver consists of a three-component coil with 100 kHz bandwidth. Data recording is controlled by a tablet, and GPS is integrated with the system to provide positioning information in real-time. Recorded data are sufficiently calibrated and described so that they can be quantitatively interpreted using commercial and/or open-source software to produce models of subsurface electrical resistivity.
