Context & Background
Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.
About ARYAF PROJECT
ARYAF serves Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises operating in food processing, local hospitality, tourism, the restaurant industry, eco-tourism, and agri-tourism within west Bekaa, Zahle, and South Mount Lebanon.
The program aims to empower sixty MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) to increase their sales volume, implement a business continuity plan, and provide training to their staff, including youth, women, and disabled individuals.
The program is funded by The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in partnership with Berytech, within the framework of Strengthening Agriculture, Local Communities and Small and Medium Enterprises project (ACE).
SME Background
Mechaalany was established in 1943 and became a pioneer in the pickles industry. Since then, the company has focused on producing quality products while maintaining a traditional recipe, which allowed the company to evolve into one of the largest producers of pickles, jam, syrups, and other specialty food products in the Middle East.
Today, the company is growing fast in the region, and its aim for the next few years is to continue its expansion reach and portfolio through research and development, product diversity, and business development. To achieve this target, the company is investing significantly in upgrading and adding new production lines to increase production capability.
Scope of Work
A lean manufacturing and production optimization consultant is required to help apply lean practices and principles and reduce production time.
The consultant should study all the business operations to gather the required information for issuing the best advice on how to apply lean manufacturing principles. The consultant will apply all steps of Lean manufacturing implementation, including value-added activities. After that, the consultant will eliminate functional barriers and develop a product-focused Lean Manufacturing process that improves lead time.
Deliverables
The consultant is expected to fulfill the below vital responsibilities:
Deliverable 1: Production Flow Assessment and Analysis
Conduct an initial assessment of the client-s current production processes and workflow to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
Analyze data related to production performance, including quality metrics, lead times, and resource utilization.
Deliverables 2: Lean Manufacturing Implementation
Design and implement lean manufacturing principles to streamline production workflows, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency.
Production Planning and Scheduling
Collaborate with production planning teams to develop efficient production schedules that meet customer demands while minimizing inventory levels and production costs.
Implement strategies to improve on-time delivery performance.
Identify and recommend automation or technological solutions to enhance production capabilities.
Cost Reduction Strategies
Identify opportunities for cost reduction in production processes while maintaining or improving product quality.
Analyze and optimize the use of resources, including labor, materials, and equipment.
Deliverable 3: Training and Development
Provide training sessions for production staff on lean manufacturing principles, best practices, and relevant tools and methodologies.
Deliverable 4: Measure the success of implemented changes
Develop and execute strategies for continuous improvement, incorporating lean tools such as value stream mapping.
Utilize data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of implemented changes and make data-driven recommendations for further improvements.
Deliverable 5: Reporting
Deliver a detailed project overview, showcasing the intervention-s implementation progress and qualitative and quantitative results.
Qualifications
Bachelor-s or master-s degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing management, food engineering, or related field.
AT least 10 years of experience in production management and implementing lean manufacturing principles.
Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, standards, and best practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Certification in lean manufacturing is a plus.
How to apply
The selected Consultant is expected to start their activities soon after selection (the effective date is to be confirmed), and the contract duration is over 3 months.
Candidates should submit the following documents:
Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section “Scope of Work, Outputs, and Deliverables, ” elaborating on it further.
Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed intervention period divided per deliverable as listed above.
