The canton of Basel-Landschaft started construction work for the cantonal flood protection project along the Birs in Laufen in the winter of 2024/2025. The flood protection measures to be implemented require a new construction of the existing Nau bridge. The bridge is created in a new location. By relocating the Nau Bridge, the traffic situation in Laufen is to be improved and the central location is to be relieved of motorized traffic. The Naustrasse will be parallel to the railway line from Schliffweg to Ice rink relocated and crosses the Birs to Norimatt with a new bridge.
