Frøyabanken north Trænabanken, outside the overlapping SVO area Coastal zone Lofoten in the north. A large-scale establishment of aquaculture at sea will entail significant requirements for infrastructure, preparedness, value chains on land, competence and labour. Both regional councils in Helgeland and Ocean Cluster Helgeland have, in collaboration with Nordland County Municipality, had an analysis prepared (June 2025) which shows the value creation of aquaculture at sea on Trænabanken can provide for the region. The analysis shows that establishment can provide over NOK 15 billion in annual export revenue, more than 1, 000 new man-years and around NOK 9 billion in annual value creation from 2040. Investments in the order of NOK 45 billion expected in the establishment phase, which will strengthen the supplier industry and create jobs in related sectors. Nordland County Council wants to strengthen the knowledge base to facilitate increased value creation and regional ripple effects related to aquaculture at sea on Trænabanken.
