K 11, K 40 Willisau Feasibility study abolishing the Ettiswilerstrasse level crossing The K 40 connects Willisau and Hergiswil near Willisau with the K 11. This in turn connects the Willisau region with the A2 motorway (Dagmersellen connection) and the regions Sursee and Entlebuch. Shortly before the junction of the two cantonal roads at the Grundmatt roundabout, the K 40 crosses the BLS line Willisau - Langenthal at the same level (level crossing at Ettiswilerstrasse). This level transition represents a bottleneck in the regional Transport system. Due to the train schedule, the level crossing sometimes remains closed for up to five minutes at a time. The average daily traffic (DTV) on Ettiswilerstrasse is in the forecast state 2040 (total traffic model Lucerne) in cross-section around 10, 500 motor vehicles, in the evening peak hour (ASP) around 1, 100 motor vehicles. In addition, four bus lines with a total of up to 8 buses per hour and direction run across the crossing in the Bus 2040 target network. Through the Barrier closures therefore not only affect private motor vehicles, but also road-based public transport. The aim of the planning is to improve the overall transport system in the Willisau area with a focus on the Wydenmatt - Willisau axis.
