Expression of Interest are invited for International Developers and Technology Providers to Participate in Waste to Energy Project
Producing Energy from Waste and Thereby Reduce Pollution, Landfill Issues and Enhance Employment Opportunity
Waste to Energy Projects.
The state of Qatar has witnessed an accelerated economic development and increased population growth. This has introduced a challenge on waste management and the need to protect the local environment and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the nation. In line with the Qatar National Vision, specifically in relation to environmental protection and economic development, Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC), a Public Shareholding Company, and a major Power and Water producer in Qatar, views waste management as an opportunity to participate in sustainable development of the state of Qatar through producing energy from waste and thereby reduce pollution, landfill issues and enhance employment opportunity.
Qatar electricity and Water Company is interested in inviting International Developers and Technology providers to participate in Waste to Energy project in Qatar, wherein the Interested Developer shall be part of a Special Purpose Vehicle in partnership with QEWC. The Developer shall be responsible for providing Turnkey Technology solution, arrange finance for the project and also be responsible for designing, building, and operating a waste to energy facility. The Developers shall be possessing requisite for eligibility requirements like owning and operating similar facilities and shall demonstrate his know-how in operating existing assets as well as strong capabilities in EPC and equipment supplier either directly or in partnership through a consortium.
The Developer is expected to participate with a maximum 49 % shareholding in the SPV, based on the capabilities. The entire project will be backed by relevant guarantees from various Agencies including QEWC and will be based on a long term Agreement of at least 25 years.
The waste generation for the new facility is currently about 1, 500 tons per day. The separation facility is already erected and the available site for building the Waste to energy plant is around 32, 000 square meters. It is also expected that in the coming years, the project will require expansion with increase in waste generation.
