Tender Details

Tenders are invited for Interior Design Consultant.

I. Program Background:

The USAID Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project (USAID LENS) encourage the long-term economic growth and development potential of underserved Jordanian communities. The project supports the vitality and competitiveness of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) that are often at the heart of individual, family and community livelihood within vulnerable populations and will help empower local communities to design and implement collaborative local economic development (LED) initiatives.

II. Activity Background:

USAID Local Enterprise Support Project (USAID LENS), in an effort to preserve the cultural heritage of Jordan and help artisan traditional craft producers to improve their economic status, increase revenue, and reach new markets, has partnered with Turquoise Mountain (TM); a non-governmental organization that aims to preserve and regenerate historic areas and communities with a rich cultural heritage and to revive traditional crafts, to create jobs, skills, and a renewed sense of pride.

USAID LENS and TM will also work with Syrian artisans living in host communities. Per a report published by the UNHCR in 2015, almost 4 in 5 Syrians in Jordan live outside of camps and they face dire circumstances as job opportunities are scarce and resources are drying out. They have limited opportunities of creating a sustainable source of income as they are unable to work under the same conditions as their foreign labor counterparts. In most cases, they lack the necessary permits and have limited mobility. However, they bring with them a wide range of skills than could be utilized in the local market and contribute to the economy of the country, one such skill is artisanal craft production, specifically in intricate woodwork.

The overall objective of this partnership is to create a directory of Jordanian and Syrian artisans and craft - the detailed descriptions of each craft and the directory of artisans would provide the tools with which to influence policy in order to reach the potential of the craft economy, assess craft potential across Jordan, develop and conduct a training program for artisans and producers, and link artisans with commercial markets identified locally and internationally, set in the context of local regional commercial markets and their respective appetite for high end craft products.

III. Tasks:

The role of interior design consultant is to design a range of contemporary traditionally made interior furniture, providing artisans with showcase pieces of furniture that can attract buyers and designers to the Jordanian hand-made market and also to generate individual sales on behalf of the sector.

The consultant will produce a range of home furnishings such as chairs, tables, and wall hangings.

These will be available to purchase directly from TM retail lines and will also serve and samples of the technical skills, quality craftsmanship, and material available from these artisans.
