MagPlex microspheres are the only type of microsphere that are compatible with a current serological assay used to quantify antibodies for up to 40 different disease targets for use in public health surveillance. These beads are specially dyed to be detectible by specific readers and are the basis for multiplex assays based on Luminex-s xMAP technology. Luminex is the only manufacturer of these beads and Life Technologies is the only company that can provide them at the scale needed for the current purchase.
