Description : California¿s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), a part of the California Environmental Protection Agency, is responsible for implementing Proposition 65, a law that requires businesses to provide warnings before exposing people to significant amounts of chemicals on the state¿s Proposition 65 list. Chemicals are placed on this list for cancer or reproductive harm (i.e., harm to a developing embryo or fetus, or harm to one¿s ability to have a healthy baby). Proposition 65 was approved by California voters in November 1986 and went into effect in January 1987. In 2027, California marks the 40th anniversary of the law¿s implementation, recognizing four decades of efforts to reduce Californians¿ exposure to toxic chemicals. In preparation for this anniversary, OEHHA will commence a one-year communication and publicity effort to elevate public awareness of Proposition 65¿s legacy, current implementation efforts and challenges, and future direction. This work is intended to support OEHHA¿s mission to protect and enhance the health of Californians and our state's environment through scientific evaluations that inform, support and guide regulatory and other actions. All deliverables should reflect OEHHA¿s commitment to improving public health and the environment for Californians.
