The Flux building on the TU/e campus (completed in 2014) has a second skin facade of approximately 9, 700 m2. In 2024 it was determined that rubbers of the outer glass profile were coming loose and some glass panels had sagged, causing a high risk of glass failure. The building (29, 630 m2 gross floor area, 10 floors, approx. 41 m high) has an educational and office function with some labs. Research by third parties and an external consultancy led to a recovery report and technical description. Because the facade construction is not demonstrably safe, TU/e carries out periodic inspections and places fuses on glass plates. and uses drones for point cloud measurements. Ultimately, the entire second skin facade will have to be replaced.
