Anglian Water Services Ltd (AWS) produces over 150, 000 dry tonnes of raw wastewater derived sludge per annum, this is treated at 10 regional sludge treatment centres (STC). We treat the sludge using advanced anaerobic digestion technologies and biogas is produced which we currently use as a renewable fuel in combined heat & power (CHP) engines. To support our net zero 2030 plans our intention is to transition our CHP fleet over to biogas upgrading to biomethane for grid injection or other beneficial use.
