The WWTP accumulates sewage sludge as part of the sanitary treatment activities. Sewage sludge is currently collected and transported to the Fort Detrick municipal landfill for disposal. Upgraded treatment processes at the new Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) WWTP results in increased sewage sludge volume accumulation and disposal.
