Over the next ten years, all 16 vessels of the Port of Rotterdam Authority will reach the end of their life cycle. In line with our purpose "Connecting the World. Building tomorrow's sustainable port", we seize the moment to make our fleet more sustainable and standardize it as much as possible and simplify the maintenance processes associated with this. To ensure this goes smoothly, the Fleet Renewal and Sustainability program has been started. The management has stated the ambition to go further than "climate neutral" when renewing the fleet and asked for the fleet to be "as emission-free" is a tough challenge because it cannot only be achieved with the use of technology, but will also rely on our working methods. At the same time, the renewal and sustainability of the fleet also offers an excellent opportunity for the seamless integration of modern digital applications in the execution of fleet-related tasks. Naval architectural expertise is required to support the program, but especially in the development of concrete project assignments for the construction of ships. This mainly concerns the carrying out of feasibility studies and making preliminary designs for various types of vessels. As well as guiding PoR in later phases. PoR does not have sufficient expertise in-house, hence this request for a framework agreement with a marine engineering consultancy firm. The success factors for the naval architecture services are: Feasibility studies that demonstrate that there are opportunities to design and build zero-emission fit for purpose vessels that are technically and financially feasible. Preliminary designs of zero-emission fit for purpose vessels as a visual communication and coordination tool between internal stakeholders and usable for tenders to explain the line of thinking. The modular construction makes the designs flexible for the future. Through standardization and modularization in the designs, the vessels can be maintained properly and easily become.
