VTS ensures safe and efficient guidance of shipping traffic behind the locks in the Antwerp port area, both for seagoing and inland shipping. The goal? Avoiding accidents on the water and ensuring smooth shipping traffic. The Antwerp docks are divided into four sectors, each with its own VHF or navigation channel: Donk, Polder, Waasland and Weel. Three sectors are currently active, the Waasland sector is not in use. The aim of this framework agreement is to have flexible VTS operators available to guarantee continuity of service, both in the case of shifts not yet filled in the monthly planning and in case of operational urgency. The service provider(s) mentioned above are responsible for the safe and efficient guidance of shipping traffic within the VTS area (flexible operational services).
