Forensic mental health services are for people with a mental illness or learning disability who may be a risk to themselves or others because of their medical condition. The Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 places a requirement on NHSGGC to ensure that patients with a mental illness are able to be treated in facilities which meet their needs and are not subject to higher levels of security than they require.NHSGGC seeks to contract a supplier to provide a SQA level education programme and an adult literacy and numeracy education programme for patients across both a medium and low secure unit (Rowanbank Clinic and Leverndale Hospital), in order to introduce patients to a small classroom experience, providing a variety of subjects using different activities to teach. The programmes will require to be tailored to the needs and skill level of the patients involved and provide a supportive learning environment. The programmes will provide patients with an opportunity to gain formal qualifications and to develop employability skills.
