The competent authority area for public transport in the Jyvaskyla region has expanded from the beginning of 2024. In addition to Jyvaskyla, Laukaa and Muurame, Hankasalmi, Petajavesi, Toivakka and Aanekoski have joined the jurisdiction. The number of public transport trips has increased by around 92% since the corona pandemic and about 22% from the pre-corona record year 2019. The trip volume target for 2025 is 9.6 million trips. The reason behind the growth in popularity of public transport is the Link to the Future 2030 development program drawn up in 2019, the implementation of diverse measures has made public transport possible the improvement of services and the development of an increase in the number of trips. As a result of the expansion of the area of jurisdiction, the new Link to the future program is to be expanded to the entire area of jurisdiction so that the popularity and growth of public transport can be promoted regionally.
