Coffee farming continues to be a primary livelihood for smallholder producers in Sultan Kudarat, contributing significantly to the rural economy. Several farmer associations have been formed through government and NGO-supported initiatives, serving as platforms for collective marketing, capacity building, and access to support services. However, most of these groups remain informal, with limited institutional structure, weak governance, and no legal identity, which hinders their access to broader opportunities. To improve their integration in the coffee value chain, there is a need to transition these associations into formal cooperatives. A cooperative setup offers legal personality, improved access to financing, government programs, and a stronger governance framework.
